Although there are still days when you can feel comfy in a T-shirt and shorts, the fall season is very much here. Practically every store I walk into reminds me of that, with displays showing off all kinds of autumnal sights and smells. You can light a pumpkin-scented candle or simmer a pot of apple cider to get yourself in the seasonal spirit, but if you want your home to both look and smell like fall, there’s one fun, easy way to do it: cinnamon brooms. I usually go to Trader Joe’s to grab my cinnamon brooms, but Aldi just dropped their own version — and it’s a great deal.
What Are Cinnamon Brooms?
Before I knew what a cinnamon broom was, I assumed it was some type of candy. Make no mistake: You do not want to eat this item. It’s quite literally a broom — the old-school spindly kind that you probably associate more with witches than sweeping up dust. The popular Trader Joe’s version is made from raw pine (which technically means you could also use it as Christmas decor) and cinnamon oil, which gives this rustic piece of decor a sweet, comforting aroma that will bring the spirit of fall wherever you place it without being too overwhelming.
Depending on the size you get, there are all sorts of ways to use these cinnamon brooms. You probably don’t want to use them to clean your house (and you definitely don’t want to eat them!) but they’d be great along a window, on a mantel, over a door mistletoe-style, in a lawn display, and as a car air freshener, just to name a few. You can also put your own spin on them: Apartment Therapy contributor L. Daniela Alvarez adds sprigs of rosemary to her cinnamon brooms for a pop of greenery and an even more sophisticated scent.
An Alternative to Shop Online
Yes, I know, technically the Aldi cinnamon brooms are already an alternative to the ones sold at Trader Joe’s — but both of those stores require in-person shopping, and sometimes life just gets in the way. If you’re too busy or too inconveniently located, then you can find a version of this autumnal accessory online from The Home Depot.
